Remote Printing with Spectrum Remote Print
Remote printing is the act of printing a label to a device in an environment where the device cannot connect to the Spectrum Application Server by ordinary means. In such situations, the device cannot connect to the Spectrum Application Server via TCP/IP connection, server spooler connection, or remote spooler (LPR) connection.
Spectrum Remote Print, via the Loftware Print Agent A client-side service that must be installed on a remote computer so that it can communicate with the Spectrum Application Server and permit printing. The Loftware Print Agent must be installed on the remote computer so that it can communicate with the Spectrum Application Server and make devices at that location available in Spectrum. Each Remote Site can communicate with only one Spectrum Application Server. object in Spectrum represents the location of a remote computer. The Loftware Print Agent can support both Spectrum Native devices and Windows devices, either directly connected to the remote computer, connected via TCP/IP, or connected via LPR protocol. For example, you can use remote printing to print to a device that is physically connected to a computer outside your WAN.
Within Spectrum, a Device Admin A user who creates and configures devices in Spectrum. Some Device Admins may have permissions to manage Remote Sites. or an administrator is required to configure any devices using Spectrum Remote Print. A Device Admin that is responsible for configuring devices for use with Spectrum Remote Print requires Read and Write permissions for Remote Sites and Read and Write permissions for Device Groups in Spectrum.
The Loftware Print Agent
The Loftware Print Agent is a client-side service that is installed on a remote computer. After the Loftware Print Agent is associated with a Remote Site, it connects to Spectrum to receive print jobs, provide device and status information, and receive configuration information as needed. After it is installed, all configuration and management of remote printing is provided through Spectrum.
Getting Started with Spectrum Remote Print
To configure Spectrum Remote Print, the following tasks must be performed:
- Configure a Remote Site (Spectrum administrator or Device Admin)
- Install the Loftware Print Agent (Spectrum administrator or Device Admin and administrator of the remote computer)
- Add Devices for a Remote Site (Spectrum administrator or Device Admin)
