Configure a Remote Site
Spectrum Remote Print enables users to print from Spectrum using devices that are not directly accessible by a Spectrum Application Server. To use this approach, an administrator must configure a Remote Site—an object in Spectrum that represents the location of a computer that has wired, wireless, or network connections to devices that are not directly accessible by a Spectrum Application Server. Each Remote Site can communicate with only one Spectrum Application Server. As a best practice, it is recommended that you deploy a single remote computer per location or logical grouping of printer devices.
- Configure a maximum of 1000 Remote Sites per Spectrum Application Server.
- Configure a maximum of 250 devices per Remote Site.
- Configure a maximum of 2000 devices across all Remote Sites.
- A Medium Service internet speed of 12 to 25 Mbps is recommended.
To configure a Remote Site, an administrator should use the following procedure.
- In Devices
> Remote Site to create a new Remote Site.
- For Maximum Number of Devices, enter a limit for the number of devices that the administrator of the remote computer can create for use with Spectrum at the Remote Site.
- In the Properties pane, enter a description of the Remote Site.
- In the ribbon, click Save
and then enter a name for the Remote Site.
Characters permitted in names
The following characters are permitted in the name: letters, numbers, parentheses, square brackets, ampersands, plus signs, commas, semi-colons, and tildes. Additionally, the following characters are permitted but cannot begin or end the name: spaces, double quotation marks, single quotation marks, hyphens, underscores, periods, and grave accents. For letters, the case that you specify is displayed, but case is ignored when Spectrum interprets a name. If you will be installing the Spectrum application on a computer running Windows Server, and transferring data between Spectrum instances, see the "Transferring Spectrum Data in a Compressed File" section of the Loftware Spectrum Data Transfer Guide.
- After you save the Remote Site for the first time, the token for the Loftware Print Agent is displayed along with a button that allows administrators to download the Loftware Print Agent. For more information, see User Interface: Remote Site Options.
Provide the administrator of the remote computer with the name of the Remote Site, and direct that administrator to install the Loftware Print Agent. For more information, see Install the Loftware Print Agent.
