Add a Task Dependency

You can make a task dependent on a previously numbered task that is within the same Smartflow master project. For more information, see Using Task Dependencies.

To add a task dependency, do the following.

  1. In Admin  , from the Access Admin Function primary drop-down list select Templates. From the secondary drop-down, select Add/Edit Templates, and then click Go.
  2. Click Edit Workflow in the row of the template you want to edit.
  3. Click Edit in the row of the task where you want to add a dependency. The task row is expanded to display the task details.
  4. In the Dependency pane, select the task you want the selected task to depend on. If the task is in the same project level, look under This Task Depends on. If the task is another project level, look under Tasks in Other Levels.
  5. Click the Activation Flag drop-down list and select an activation flagClosed A flag placed on a task which indicates that the completion (complete, user skip, cancel, approve, reject) of this task can be used to activate tasks in other levels..
  6. Click the Activation Dependency drop-down list and select an activation dependencyClosed An additional dependency placed on a task that links the activation of this task to tasks in other levels via Activation Flags. All tasks have Task Dependency to other tasks in the same project level, whereas only a selection of tasks will have additional Activation Dependency on tasks in other project levels (one level up or one level below). A task will become active once both Task Dependency and Activation Dependency requirements have been met..
  7. Click Confirm.

Tips:

  • Dependency works one level up or one level down only.
  • Dependent tasks in a sub project need to be below the activation point in workflow order.
  • Activation Flags can be added to the following task types: standard, buffer, milestone, milestone fixed, enter project data, upload project file, sub project, and team notify.
