SystemUser Interface: System Preferences

The following options can be managed in System System Management > System Preferences.

Note: The SuperAdmin user can modify all preferences, and the SystemAdmin and ClientAdmin can modify the preferences as noted in the following tables. For more information, see Controlling Access to System Settings.

General Preferences

Preference Description Values

Force Inactivity Sign Out

Whether to automatically sign a user out after a specified period of inactivity. This preference can be modified by SuperAdmin and ClientAdmin.

: Users are not signed out due to inactivity.

: Users are signed out after being inactive for the specified period of time.

Force Device Connection Lookup

Whether to update the IP address of the device before each print job. This preference can be modified by SuperAdmin and ClientAdmin.

: IP address of the device is not updated before each print job.

: Force Spectrum to update the IP address of the device before each print job.

Custom Installation Name

Display a name for the current Spectrum instance in the ribbon. This preference can be modified by SuperAdmin and ClientAdmin.

All characters are permitted.

Production Environment

Business Intelligence Server URL

The URL to the Business Intelligence server in the following format, where spectrumBI-server is the IP address or DNS name of the BI server:

http://spectrumBI-server:8080/jasperserver-pro

Note: Functionality related to Business Intelligence is available only if your Spectrum license has the Business Intelligence component enabled.

This preference can be modified by SuperAdmin, SystemAdmin, and ClientAdmin.

The URL should include an http:// prefix, either an IP address or a DNS name, and a port, followed by jasperserver-pro.

Auditing Level

The level of detail to capture on changes made by a user or process to objects in Spectrum. This preference can be modified by SuperAdmin and ClientAdmin.

Off: No auditing is performed.

Actions Only: All actions are audited (create, update, and delete), but no change details are captured. (Default)

Full: All actions (create, update, and delete) and all change details (add, modify, and remove) are captured. Change details are in XML.

Text Box Fill Region

In a Text Box field, whether the entire field or only the text area has a background of the Fill Color specified in Label Design Label Design.

Important! This setting takes immediate effect. Changing this setting during an active print job may produce unexpected results.

This preference can be modified by SuperAdmin and ClientAdmin.

Envelope: The entire field has a background of the Fill Color.

Text Area: The text in the field has a background of the Fill Color.

Use Suggested Font Tracking Limits

Whether to enforce a Font Tracking value that is between -0.1 to 0.3.

: Allow a Font Tracking value between -1.0 to 1.0.

: Enforce a Font Tracking value between -0.1 to 0.3. (Default)

Help Preferences

Preference Description Values
Source Location

Whether to display dynamic web-based help or static help when users click links to the Spectrum User Guide (Help).

This preference can be modified by SuperAdmin and SystemAdmin.

Remote: Dynamic web-based help is displayed when a user clicks help links in Spectrum. The help is hosted on Loftware's website. This option is recommended because it provides users with the most current documentation. (Default)

Local: Static help that was installed at the time of Spectrum's installation is displayed when a user clicks help links in Spectrum. The help is hosted on the Spectrum Application Server. This option is provided to support Spectrum environments that do not have Internet access.

Application Preferences

Show in Application start page

Whether to display the application in Applications .

Cleared : The application is not displayed in Applications  and cannot be run directly.

Selected: The application is displayed in Applications  for use (Default).

Print Preferences

Preference Description Values
Text Box Overrun Mode

How Spectrum should respond if the amount of data received for a Text Box field is more than can fit.

Tip: If the Text Box Overrun Mode is specified in the job data, that overrides any mode specified in Label Specific Options in Label Design Label Design, device options in Devices Devices, or system preferences in System System Management. Otherwise, if specified in Label Specific Options, that overrides device options and system preferences, and if specified in device options, that overrides system preferences.

This preference can be modified by SuperAdmin and ClientAdmin.

Allow Overrun: The text continues beyond the bottom of the envelope for the field. For a printed label, as much of the text as can fit on the label is printed.

Truncate Data: Text that does not fit is not printed or displayed. The preceding text is printed or displayed.

Truncate Data at Paragraph Break: A paragraph that does not fit is not printed or displayed. The preceding paragraph is printed or displayed.

Fail Print Job on Overrun: Any print job that includes a Text Box field in which the data received does not fit is failed and is not printed or displayed.

Job Archive Preferences

Archive Retention

The number of months to retain print job history data in the Spectrum database before exporting it to an archive dump file. Once the number of months has been reached, Spectrum creates a dump (DMP) file every month in the location specified during installation.

Note: Changes to this preference take effect immediately.

This preference can be modified by SuperAdmin, SystemAdmin, and ClientAdmin.

0-999 months

Export Job History

Whether to export job history data from the Spectrum database into archive dump (DMP) files. If you do not need these dump files, clearing this check box prevents the files from being automatically created and saves space on your database server.

Note: Changes to this preference take effect immediately.

This preference can be modified by SuperAdmin, SystemAdmin, and ClientAdmin.

: Do not automatically export job history data or create DMP files.

: Automatically export transactional data and create DMP files.

Driver Preferences

Label Component Caching

Preference Description Values

Enable Caching

Whether to store images so they can be reused by like devices (the same driver and DPI). Images include all Spectrum field types, shapes, non-native barcodes, and images.

This preference can be modified by SuperAdmin and ClientAdmin.

Use Memory Shrinker

The interval after which the cache is checked for objects that can be removed.

Note: When this value is changed, the cache is purged, stopped, and restarted.

How long a cached image can remain in memory.
