DesignImport a Label Template or Other Object

You can import a field data catalog, label template, image, layer object, layout, reusable object, or field data catalog into Loftware Spectrum if the object was previously exported to an import (SER) file. For information about exporting to an import file, see Export a Label Template or Other Object.

Tip: You can also import images that were not previously in Spectrum. For more information, see Import a New Image.

To import a field data catalog, label template, image, layer object, layout, reusable object, or field data catalog, use the following procedure.

  1. Click Label Design Label Design or Application Design .
  2. Click File > Import.
  3. In the Import dialog box, click Browse and select an import file.
  4. In the Import Name field, you can specify what the name of the object will be in Spectrum.

    ClosedCharacters permitted in names

The following characters are permitted in the name: letters, numbers, parentheses, square brackets, ampersands, plus signs, equal signs, commas, semi-colons, and tildes. Additionally, the following characters are permitted but cannot begin or end the name: spaces, double quotation marks, single quotation marks, hyphens, underscores, periods, and grave accents. For letters, the case that you specify is displayed, but case is ignored when Spectrum interprets a name. If you will be installing the Spectrum application on a computer running Windows Server, and transferring data between Spectrum instances, see the "Transferring Spectrum Data in a Compressed File" section of the Loftware Spectrum Data Transfer Guide.

  5. For Import Location, select a folder in Spectrum where the object will be saved.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Note: You cannot import an object from an import (SER) file into a folder in which an object with the same name already exists unless the folder is version-controlled and the object in the folder is checked out to you. Additionally, if you import an object into a folder in which an object with the same name already exists, the minor version number is incremented. For example, if you import MyLabel version 1.0 into a folder where MyLabel version .3 exists, the MyLabel version .3 will become MyLabel version .4.
