Relationship Administration

Relationships can be maintained from the Product, Attribute or Phrase menus.

Three types of Relationships are possible:

  • Product-Attribute
  • Attribute-Phrase
  • Product-Phrase.

The same relationships are described irrespective of where you create or edit them. For example, a relationship between product X and phrase Y will appear in the Relationships menu for Product X and for Phrase Y.

Select Type

When defining a new Relationship, the user has the option to select individual items (Custom) or auto-select all items (Select All). When Select All is used it automatically includes any new items added to this list.

An example of where this is useful is in situations where we have specific and non- specific requirements. e.g. When Product X is selected, user can select from a defined list of appropriate Handling statements, but when Product Y is selected, user can select ANY Handling Statement.

Here we would define a specific Phrase Library for Handling Statements.

  • We would build Relationships (Custom) between Product X and the specific Handling Statements (for this product).
  • We would build Relationships (Select All) between Product Y and Handling Statement Phrase Library (any statement is suitable).

In this way, when a new phrase is added to Handling Statements (Phrase Library), it is automatically added as a relationship to Product Y (but not Product X).

Use the following procedures to create and manage relationships:
